The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, denied the allegations that his country sided with Ethiopia in the file of the Renaissance Dam, stressing the need for Addis Ababa to understand Cairo's concerns in this regard.
Russia Today website quoted Borisenko as saying in a television interview: “We understand that the population of Egypt is increasing rapidly, and there are currently more than 100 million people, and of course it has a great need for water, so Russia has very much appealed to its Ethiopian friends and allies to take into account the concerns.”

He referred to Moscow's firm support for the statement issued by the presidency of the UN Security Council last September on the issue of the Renaissance Dam, which stressed the need to continue negotiations and reach an agreement between Cairo, Addis Ababa and Khartoum at the appropriate time, which should be resolved soon.
