Should Sahra Wagenknecht leave the left and found her own party? A protest union from Munich is calling on them to do so - and, according to SPIEGEL information, guarantees support.

The alternative union Social Peace calls on the left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht to found her own party.

The background to this is the assessment of the state arbitration commission in North Rhine-Westphalia, which refused to expel Wagenknecht from the party - but confirmed in the written justification that it had harmed the party.

"It was not Sahra Wagenknecht who caused damage, but the party," said union chairman Hans-Christian Lange.

This drives workers to abstain from voting or into the arms of radical organizations.

One advises Wagenknecht to "react to the renewed humiliation by the Arbitration Commission" and to resign from the left.

"We want a new Wagenknecht party instead of› Gauche-caviar-Wokeness ‹," said Lange.

"It is unacceptable that the Arbitration Commission is pressuring Sahra Wagenknecht with a signal of merciful tolerance, humiliation and the obviously hidden threat." According to its own statements, the union has 2,000 members.

There has been talk of Wagenknecht for a long time within the left.

She herself had always denied that so far.

After the party congress in the spring, this option was also brought into play by a supporter who was voted out of the party executive committee.

In the new Bundestag parliamentary group, shortly after the parliamentary elections, the MP Alexander Ulrich had also announced via SMS that he would leave the parliamentary group if the party leadership did not resign.

When asked, he later made it clear that he had "pointedly formulated" this text message a few hours after the election result.

According to Ulrich, he is promoting »that there must also be acceptance of responsibility«.

One of the influential Wagenknecht supporters, Ralf Krämer, recently analyzed the election together with the Speaker Council of the Socialist Left, a subgroup of the left, and explicitly did not write of a split there.

However, in the text they criticize "exclusion and defamatory attacks" in the party against Wagenknecht.

Wagenknecht's supporters in the parliamentary group would also be fought unfairly.

It is part of a "solidarity party culture to deal objectively with their arguments and to reject defamatory attacks and terms (Putin friends, conspiracy theorists, anti-Semites, corona deniers, racists, AfD-affiliated, etc.)," it says.

A few months ago, some members applied for Wagenknecht to be expelled from the party. The state arbitration commission had unanimously rejected the application, but Wagenknecht was sharply criticized. The written reasoning states that Wagenknecht had harmed the party, but was not excluded because the defendant was not solely responsible for this damage. Responsibility also lies with the party "which has not politically resolved the conflict that has been waged with increasing severity for many years" over Wagenknecht's views, but rather delays it.

From the point of view of the party, however, it is also unacceptable when Wagenknecht "judges in a condescending way people who are committed to migrants, women, sexual minorities, animal or climate protection."

Wagenknecht promotes "conservative and right-wing populist resentments," according to the state arbitration commission.
