August brought an increase in guests and overnight stays to Schleswig-Holstein tourism.

1,179,000 overnight guests in the accommodation facilities and on the campsites meant an increase of 3.0 percent compared to the same month last year, as the North Statistics Office announced on Friday.

Compared to August 2020, the number of overnight stays increased by 10.8 percent to 6,431,000.

Kiel - According to the tourism agency Schleswig-Holstein, the guests were roughly the same as in 2019 before the Corona crisis.

The number of overnight stays, on the other hand, reached a peak.

In August 2019 there were a good 5.57 million overnight stays.

For the period from January to August, the number of guests was down 9.4 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

There was an increase of 3.4 percent in overnight stays.

According to the North Statistics Office, accommodation providers with at least ten beds and campsites with ten or more spaces without permanent camping were recorded.

In August 2021, there were 3,513 open accommodation facilities with 239,000 guest beds available and 268 open campsites.

"After a year and a half of the corona pandemic and the many months of closure, the current development can be assessed very positively," said Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP).

He warned against putting your hands on your lap now.

"All tourism professionals are called upon to position themselves for the future with innovative concepts and investments in quality and service."
