The Tarn-et-Garonne Assize Court of Appeal on Friday sentenced Florian Varin to 28 years of criminal imprisonment during a third trial for an attempted murder and six rapes committed in the west of France in 2012.

The sentence of this young man, now 30 years old, was accompanied by a safety period of 18 years and a socio-judicial follow-up of 10 years.
A less severe sentence than the 30 years with a safety period of 22 years demanded by Advocate General David Senate.
He was sentenced to 30 years at first instance and this sentence was then confirmed on appeal in March 2018 in Albi.
But his defenders, Messrs Alexandre Martin and Emmanuelle Franck, appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Court of Cassation then noted a procedural flaw considering that the president of the Tarn Assize Court of Appeal should have submitted for debate the defense request, which wanted new psychiatric and psychological expertise.

Florian Varin admitted the six rapes, committed between December 2011 and November 2012, notably in Rennes, Niort and Toulouse, but he again challenged the attempted murder of his last victim in Toulouse, a 23-year-old girl who was assaulted a few days before. his arrest.
