Moscow-Sana

Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Alexander Shulgin, warned that Western countries in the organization would use the case of the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, as a pretext to target Moscow and try to illegally deprive it of its rights within the organization, as they did before with Syria.

TASS news agency quoted Shulgin as saying on YouTube yesterday: There is a possibility that they will repeat the same thing they did to deprive Syria of its rights in the organization by putting forward a resolution during the Conference of the States Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and they may now try to implement the same scenario with Russia.

Shulgin added: There is working within the Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of an illegal team of elements who decide who is responsible for the use of chemical weapons... This illegal team will now target Russia after it targeted Syria... And its members will conduct their investigations from a distance as they always do and ostensibly "in a manner Very professional, and their results will be predetermined.”

He added that the ultimate goal of these actions is to escalate pressure on Russia, and we, in turn, have sufficient resources and remedies for such actions.

Shulgin had confirmed last April that the illegal decision passed in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemicals against Syria by Western countries is disastrous and proves that the organization has turned into a tool for political pressure on countries.

Syria condemned “the aggressive approach that was embodied in the work of the 25th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the OPCW through the Western countries, especially the United States, Britain and France, to practice the most heinous methods of blackmail, threats, bullying and pressures to pass a Western decision against Syria in a dangerous precedent in the history of the organization.”
