Nintendo Switch OLED (Nintendo)

"One day about 20 years ago, when I was a little five-year-old, my father came home from a long day in the office and brought with him a unique gift that changed my life forever: a small box with two words written on it that accompanied the course of my life right up to the moment I write these words." Game Boy. " I could not get my hands off the square and colorful console, and so it happened again a few years later, when Dad decided to surprise me again with my favorite game console to this day - the Gameboy Advance SP.

The console brought with it significant innovations compared to the regular Game Boy Advance that some of my good friends had, first introduced me to Nintendo's amazing abilities to take existing and quite successful game consoles and miraculously improve it in the middle of its life cycle. I was present to discover the same thing 12 years later, when I went to upgrade the 3DS XL console to the remake, the New Nintendo 3ds X.

I once again got to feel how my gaming experience as a gamer improves miraculously with the remake of the console.

And five years have passed since then, I'm 25 years old, and the Nintendo Switch console I've had since its launch year is my most used console, and it's time for another upgrade.

So after Nintendo announced the new OLED model I knew right away that it was also the turn of my current switch (which went through with me just about everything in life) to lodge in favor of a shiny, beautiful and better version.

Despite all my attempts to stay calm, and cynical towards the new version of the console, I think this time too Nintendo played it, and hugely.

As we take the new switch out of its significantly smaller packaging than its predecessors in the series (well done to Nintendo for the positive attitude towards the environment), we will not notice too many noticeable innovations. True the white color of the console and tight is quite special (and in my opinion and especially to my partner, this is the most beautiful color combination so far of Nintendo's hybrid console), but when everything is still off and deployed before on the desk in my office, I was not too impressed.

As soon as I turned on the console and the new screen lit up my eyes, the story ended, and I just got addicted when I first looked at the screen. The brightness of the image, and its improved size just felt like they were meant to be, as someone with vision not something that needs to wear glasses all day, I got used to using my old switch mostly in the stationary position, net due to the fact that the small screen is not the convenient option for me. When there are two docs and two TVs in the house, there is no justification for sitting and watching the small screen of the console.

After an hour of playing on the OLED my mind changed completely.

The new screen is manufactured by Samsung, and it displays impressive RGB bulbs that provide more vivid and quality colors than any portable console that has ever hit the market.

The maximum brightness of the console is significantly higher compared to its previous versions, and the high quality colors combined with the screen size that feels significant at levels I did not expect them, and they made me fall in love with the console's mobile mode again.

For me personally, he has not played in a stationary position not even once since I was privileged to receive the console for review thanks to Nintendo Israel.

Of course like many of us who have a switch, the first game I turned on and tried before all the other many games I had, was Zelda: Breath of the wild, perhaps one of the best games of all kinds, and absolutely the best game ever released for Switch.

Thanks to the new and bigger screen and thanks to the new and powerful speakers of the OLED switch, I returned to play the game after two years of hiatus, and I really do not want to stop.

The world of Hyrrol has never looked so good on the switch, and the impressive sound combined with the excellent mixing done by the game's sound engineers, create a pretty impressive sound experience, which adds even more to the game live in mobile mode, and it's a perfect gaming experience.

The drastic improvement in the gaming experience is also noticeable in games like the legendary Mario Kart 8, the new and excellent Matroid Dread looks no less hysterical (full review very soon), and playing Smash Bruce Ultimate on top of the new switch just feels much more practical and useful compared to previous console versions.

The OLED model also includes an expanded 64GB of internal memory so there is a lot more room for all your games, in addition to the option to expand with an external card.

Aside from the screen and the new speakers, the designers from Nintendo finally put an end to the life of the backrest of the previous versions of the switch and replaced it with a horizontal stand that is spread over the entire back of the device.

This is an upgrade no less than a game changer for tabletop mode players (of which I personally am not one).

The new switch backrest feels made of iron, and the adjustment angle of the grease is so dark that it is almost impossible to drop the switch except with real effort beyond the normative situation of using a console.

In terms of battery life, despite the fact that it itself is identical to the previous version of the switch (the 1.1) the OLED screen enjoys the ability to turn off pixels when it displays a dark scene or black parts on the screen, which contributes to the console's battery life quite significantly, And according to a variety of comparisons that can be found on the net, it seems that this is a console that shows the best battery life among all the existing models of Nintendo's hybrid console, and that is despite the larger screen.

Players who like to play online will be happy to find that the new Doc also offers a LAN connection, so it can be said that the online experience has been significantly improved and there is no need to rely anymore on a third party adapter or WIFI connection only, God forbid.

Definitely a welcome addition.

It is important to note that despite my much enthusiasm, I still think that anyone who has a version 1.2 switch, or a recently purchased version 1.1 switch, has no real reason to upgrade your existing console.

Although all the impressive additions prevent me from going back to playing on my previous console, but for people who do not play mainly in mobile mode or people who do not have the option to buy a new console every year, do not worry: the existing switch in your home is no less excellent.

On the other hand, if you are in the market to buy your first switch console, and you do not intend to purchase the significantly cheaper portable switch version, there is no real justification for "saving" the fairly minor gap between the standard switch and the OLED.

Absolutely I say, you should go for the OLED with all your might, and not think twice about it, because the gaps between the two models completely justify the slightly higher price, and in the end, this is a better game console, period.

In conclusion

Although at first I was cynical about my attitude towards the new OLED version of the switch, Nintendo took a formula that in my eyes it wins, and made it almost perfect.

The gaming experience feels much more complete: the screen is larger with sharp colors that enhance the gaming experience, the sound is better, and a direct LAN connection finally solves the distress of online gamers on the console.

There is no real reason for Nintendo to release a PRO version with upgraded hardware for the switch, it is necessary and it is not the company's behavior pattern.

In my opinion, with the slight but significant changes that Nintendo has added to the new model, it has managed to once again extend the life of its console.

Who would have believed that a new, larger screen and a new backrest would make me feel like a child again?
