Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) strategy to contain Russia is a confirmation of the rightness of his country's decision to end the official dialogue with the alliance.
"This clearly confirms the correctness of the decisions taken by Russia a few days ago regarding the termination of the official dialogue, because dialogue in such circumstances is not necessary and the NATO strategy is proof of that," Peskov told reporters today, according to what Russia Today reported.
He pointed out that Moscow had no illusions about the essence of NATO and said, "The alliance was not created for peace, it was created for confrontation and it was designed for this purpose," stressing that his country is constantly taking measures to protect its interests and will continue to do so.
Earlier this month, NATO announced the withdrawal of the accreditation of 8 diplomats from the Russian mission to the alliance and reducing the total credits to 10 from 20, which prompted Russia to respond by suspending the work of its mission to NATO, starting from the first of next month, and ending the work of the Alliance’s communication and information office in Moscow.
