The home of a senior Ukrainian presidential administration official in Kiev was attacked Friday (October 22) with a Molotov cocktail, police said, adding that they had arrested the assailant.

A 25-year-old man threw a Molotov cocktail early in the morning in the yard of the house of Igor Jovkva, deputy director of administration under President Volodymyr Zelensky, police said in a statement.
“
Fortunately, no one was injured,
” Ukrainian presidency spokesman Serguiï Nykyforov said on television, assuring that the sponsors and their possible motives will be quickly established.
Second attack in a month
According to the police, the attacker is a homeless man who found an advertisement on the internet offering 4,000 dollars to whoever agrees to carry out the attack. This is the second attack on a presidential administration official in Ukraine in recent weeks. At the end of September, the car of Serguï Chefir, an adviser to Volodymyr Zelensky, was targeted by multiple shots, an "
assassination attempt
" according to the authorities. Sergey Chefir, a longtime friend and associate of Volodymyr Zelensky, escaped unscathed, but his driver was injured.
The Ukrainian president's entourage associated this attack with the efforts of Volodymyr Zelensky in the field of the fight against corruption.
The Ukrainian president announced this year a campaign to fight against certain oligarchs, extremely wealthy businessmen accused of exploiting the economy of this former Soviet republic and of buying the votes of the media and the political class.
A former actor and comedian, he was elected to the Ukrainian presidency in 2019, promising change and a fierce fight against the corruption that plagues Ukraine.
But so far its results have been very limited.
