Berlin - Many experts had spoken before a renewed rise in the corona values in autumn and winter and indeed: for a few days, both the seven-day incidence and the number of new infections have been increasing again.

Unnecessary contacts should be reduced: RKI warns of significantly increasing corona numbers

As the RKI reported in its new weekly report on the pandemic on Thursday evening, the corona numbers could grow dynamically in the coming period.

"It is to be expected that the increase in the number of cases will accelerate further in the autumn and winter," the institute said in the report.

Particularly dramatic: according to the RKI, there has been a significant increase in the number of outbreaks reported in medical facilities as well as in old people's and nursing homes. The seven-day incidence in people over 90 years of age rose again to over 50 last week, for the first time since the week of May 3, 2021. As in previous weeks, younger age groups recorded significantly higher incidences.

In its report, the RKI further explains: "Especially with the number of cases now increasing significantly, the basic risk of infection and your own contribution to the spread of Sars-Cov2 should be

reduced

regardless of the vaccination, recovery or test status

".

The RKI calls on all people to comply with the rules of conduct to protect against infection.

Unnecessary close contacts should also be reduced and “situations, especially indoors, in which so-called super-spreading events can occur” should be avoided as far as possible.

Once again, the UK is moving into focus in the fight against the coronavirus.
