US State Department spokesman Ned Price today (Friday) asked for clarification from Israel regarding its declaration of six Palestinian NGOs as terrorist organizations. He said Israel had not given the United States an early warning of the move. "We believe that respect for human rights is an important principle," he said in a statement.
This announcement comes after Defense Minister Bnei Gantz signed an order declaring six organizations of the "Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine" in Judea and Samaria, as terrorist organizations. According to the announcement published in the matter, these organizations are part of a network of organizations that operate under cover in the international arena on behalf of the Popular Front, in order to support its activities and advance its goals.
A senior Foreign Ministry official said that a few days ago, Israel updated six European countries that donate money to those organizations, with the intention of declaring them terrorist organizations. The Foreign Ministry official noted that Israel had passed a file containing intelligence evidence of senior involvement in those terrorist organizations.
"We explained that the investigation into the activities of the Palestinian organizations led to unequivocal rulings about their connection to terrorism and especially to the Popular Front organization, hence the decision of the Minister of Defense," the senior Foreign Ministry official explained.
"In addition, we sought to increase control over funds transferred to Palestinian entities."

Earlier, following Gantz's decision to declare the six organizations terrorist organizations, the Adalah Legal Center responded that "the defense minister's decision is an attack on human rights values and the very existence of Palestine and his right to self-determination. And the criminalization of civil society organizations and their activists who play a vital role in the protection of human rights and the provision of social services - including organizations working for children's rights, prisoners and health services. "Immediately endangers the rights and well-being of thousands of Palestinians. This is an unprecedented attack on human rights defenders fighting the Israeli occupation and apartheid in the territories. The Adalah Center is determined to fight with all the legal means at its disposal against this declaration."
