In October 1871, 39 men founded the Weyarn volunteer fire brigade.

A festival week was planned for the anniversary, but due to the pandemic it was a small ceremony.

The history of the weir is summarized in an exciting chronicle.

Weyarn

- leather buckets, hemp hoses and hand pumps - these were the meager means available to people in the fight against conflagrations until a century and a half ago. This is what Fritz Würzhuber, chairman of the Weyarn Volunteer Fire Brigade, writes in his foreword to the newly published club chronicle. Because the Weyarner Wehr looks back on 150 years this year. Preparations for a week of celebration for this anniversary had long since begun, but now, due to Corona, a celebration in a small group had to remain. The fire brigade invited guests from the community and the neighboring fire brigades - also to have Father Michael's new vehicles consecrated and for a second "smaller" anniversary: the move into the fire station 30 years ago.

The chronicle that author Peter Baumgartner presented on this occasion provides information about the eventful times that the fire brigade has experienced over the past 150 years. The work comprises almost 130 pages. You can read in detail what the first steps towards the fire brigade association looked like in Weyarn. Devastating fires had often been seen in the monastery village. The monastery church alone was destroyed by flames twice in the 17th century. With industrialization, the communities increasingly recognized protection from this force of nature as a common task. In 1866, Weyarn initiated the construction of water reserves and a year later also acquired a fire engine.

One now dealt publicly with the idea of a fire brigade.

In 1871 the time had come: 39 men founded the Weyarn volunteer fire brigade.

The expansion of the extinguishing water supply, the purchase of modern equipment, the fire brigade as part of social life in the community - all of these are topics in the chronicle.

It is entertaining to read, provided with numerous pictures, documents and photos, and also surprises with funny anecdotes.

For example, that at the first fire brigade ball in 1911 in the Gasthaus Petzinger, every gentleman had to pay 1.20 marks to enter, but was allowed to bring a female companion free of charge, but 20 pfennigs were due for each additional lady.

Photos and statistics document the operations of the Weyarner Wehr - fires, floods, the snow disaster in 2019 and numerous accidents, including many on the autobahn, which often pose special tasks for the emergency services.

One chapter is devoted to the construction of the fire station, another reports on the partnership with the Linda volunteer fire brigade in Saxony.

This friendship also has a round this year: It began 30 years ago with the transfer of a used emergency vehicle.

Many mutual visits have taken place since then.

It is still uncertain whether the anniversary celebration will be rescheduled.

Würzhuber expresses his hope for this in the chronicle.

Until then, the fire brigade is pleased that you are interested in the chronicle.

It is available as a download on the homepage.
