Buses instead of subway extension

Transport is the dominant topic at the citizens' meeting in Neubiberg - the mayor regrets that there will be no subway anytime soon.

Neubiberg

- More living space for affordable rents, more business for stable tax income and a modern and digital community with a new community center, in which more and more people like to live - all of this also leads to more traffic.

And there are problems with traffic.

Citizens in all communities feel increasing traffic pressure and complain about noise, space problems and exhaust fumes in front of the front door.

This became evident again at the citizens' meeting in Neubiberg.

It also became clear that individual municipalities only have limited influence when dealing with supra-regional traffic problems.

Bus lane as salvation?

Mayor Thomas Pardeller (CSU), for example, deeply regretted that the newly planned MVG underground depot in Neuperlach-Süd was not recently discussed with the Neubiberg community, nor was extensive noise protection guaranteed.

“We are shocked,” he says.

In addition, he would have wished for more far-sighted plans including the expansion of the railway to the south.

"It would have been better if the depot had been planned with an extension of the subway to Taufkirchen." But this would take even longer, as he could not do much as mayor.

Meanwhile, they are working with the district on concepts for an extra bus lane.

But some citizens, like Cornelia Sigmund, also see a problem in additional buses.

She lives on Outer Hauptstrasse near the environmental garden and complains about buses that stop in front of her door to avoid oncoming traffic.

"If we get a bus route now, it will get even worse." Mayor Pardeller countered: "The additional buses are supposed to ensure less traffic." The traffic has tripled in the last 15 years, says Sigmund.

"You are right," says Pardeller, "more people, more traffic."

Neubiberg in numbers:

The

population of the municipality is 15,032

and is relatively stable, the municipal finances have a

total volume of around 63 million euros

according to the 2021 budget

, which exceeded the expectations of the municipality

. The

police reported 5228 missions

(stable compared to the previous year with 5245 missions) and a decrease in the number of crimes of minus 16 percent.

Fortunately, the number of traffic accidents is also falling.

The

fire brigade reports 356 missions, of which only 13 were fires, but 194 so-called "first responder" missions

, with several successful resuscitations.

The Zweckverband München-Südost reported

growing quantities of bulky waste

and declining residual waste volumes during the pandemic and asks to be careful not to mix garden waste with organic waste.

Lots of traffic noise

Franz Frischmann also lives on Äußere Hauptstrasse and would like less noise. He suggests whether the bus connection from the Bundeswehr University could not also go to the S-Bahn to Hohenbrunn instead of the Neuperlach Süd subway. The traffic wouldn’t be a bother. "The subway simply has a much better frequency," replied Pardeller. In addition to traffic noise, the numerous inquiries submitted in advance related to questions about street lighting, a district heating connection, containers for dog waste in Vivamus Park or bike and footpaths around the Hachinger Bach. Mayor Pardeller plans to tackle the latter as part of the “renaturation of the Hachinger Bach”. This should not only improve habitats for animals and plants and make the area tangible and usable for people, but also a sustainable and intermunicipal flood protection must be guaranteed. "We all saw the dramatic images of the floods in summer," said Pardeller.

Future-oriented

In addition to all the traffic problems in Neubiberg, on which the community only had a marginal influence, the mayor was also able to report on future and climate protection-oriented ideas of the community: With the "Neubiberg Climate Ticket", people from Neubiberg can get an Isarcard at the town hall information office directly on the station square lend. For one euro during the week and three euros on the weekend, you can use all of the local public transport. In addition, a pilot project will start in mid-November with the car rental company “Sixt”, which will make it possible to rent cars in the municipality without being tied to a specific station. “I hope,” said Mayor Pardeller, “that many communities will still take part - this is the only way it can work.”
