With the obligation to pay for the corona “citizen tests” for unvaccinated people, politicians combined the hope that significantly more people would be vaccinated against the corona virus.

But the pace remains moderate.

Schwerin - The obligation to pay for the corona citizen tests introduced on October 11 has not increased the vaccination rate in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The vaccination rate against Covid-19 has since increased - as before - by around 0.1 percentage points per day. This emerges from the daily publications of the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus). In the meantime, almost two thirds of the people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have complete vaccination protection. However, according to scientists, that's not enough to keep the expected wave flat in fall and winter.

"The vaccination quota can be further expanded," said the Schwerin Ministry of Health.

The house of Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) referred to the open vaccination campaigns still offered by the municipalities in order to reach the undecided.

A ministry spokesman warned that there was still a risk of infection before the autumn and winter months, when life was mainly played out indoors.

"The level of the vaccination quota has a direct impact on the burden on the health system from seriously ill corona infected people, so every single vaccination counts."

Tourism industry cautiously positive until the end of the year

The mood in the tourism industry has improved according to an internal survey after the summer season.

The industry is now looking cautiously positive on the development until the end of the year, as the tourism association reported on Tuesday.

Currently, the economic situation is almost never good during the pandemic.

"A good autumn season is a prerequisite for the factories to continue to recover," said association manager Tobias Woitendorf.

Tests at schools until Christmas: RKI for mask compulsory

The country is pursuing a two-pronged approach: it is true that the mask requirement will soon be dropped in school lessons.

But the tests will continue until the end of the year to be on the safe side.

Experts consider the strategy to be risky.

So far, the number of Covid patients in hospitals is lower than in spring, but it has recently increased.

According to the state office, there were 262 Covid patients in the state's clinics on March 2.

On Friday it was 67, 11 more than a week earlier.

Of the over 60-year-olds who are considered to be particularly at risk for a severe course of Covid-19, around 85 percent are now fully vaccinated in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. According to Lagus, more than one in four of the 12 to 17-year-olds. In the large group of 18 to 59 year olds, it is around 68 percent. There has been an above-average step forward since October 11, the beginning of the mandatory test for unvaccinated adults: The vaccination rate in this age group rose by 1.4 points to 67.7 percent from October 11 to 22.

The increase in this period was even greater among 12 to 17-year-olds: Here the vaccination rate increased by 3.8 points to 26.7 percent.

For children and adolescents aged 12 and over, the corona tests should remain free of charge until the end of the year.

Across all age groups, the increase in the vaccination rate from October 11 to 21 was 1 point and climbed to 64.5 percent.

The Robert Koch Institute assumes that the overall vaccination rate is somewhat higher than shown in the statistics.
