A very unusual incident took place today (Saturday) in Tabriz: a former senior Revolutionary Guards official, Abdin Huram, was slapped at a swearing-in ceremony for the governor of Eastern Azerbaijan by a man identified with the Revolutionary Guards for "personal reasons".
This was reported by the IRNA agency.
The one who sat in front of the hall and watched the events in real time is none other than the Iranian Interior Minister, Ahmad Wahidi.
"I do not know the attacker and I forgive him," Huram claimed.
However, the Office of the Attorney General of the Azerbaijan District, which is based in Tabriz, opened an investigation into the incident.
This was reported by the Tsenan Agency.
Huram made headlines around the world at the beginning of the previous decade, when he was abducted as a senior member of the Revolutionary Guards during the Syrian civil war.
He was released along with 47 other Iranians in 2013 in exchange for 2,130 prisoners released from the Assad regime.
Iran: Governor slapped in appointment ceremony
In their role, Huram will have to deal with the consequences of the damage caused by the president of Iran, the "hangman from Tehran" Ibrahim Raisi, and his men to relations with Azerbaijan - which, as expected, immediately affected what was happening on the part of the Iranian Azeris.
The large Azerbaijani minority in Iran recently launched a protest in which, among others, fighters in the Iranian army and the Revolutionary Guards took pictures with the symbol of the pan-Turkish movement "the gray wolves", as well as graffiti - such as "Long live Azerbaijan" - on the streets of Tabriz.
