Housing is becoming more and more expensive.

This is particularly a burden for those with little money.

In the case of ALG II recipients, the job center pays the costs.

But not every living space is paid for.

Potsdam - In Brandenburg the cost of living space is rising as in the capital - although not quite as strongly.

This makes the search difficult, especially for low-wage earners and those receiving unemployment benefits.

“There is not enough living space.

It is particularly difficult for those with little money, ”said the managing director of the Brandenburg Association of Towns and Municipalities, Jens Graf, of the dpa.

“This is not just a problem with urban areas.” Prices also rose in the villages, according to Graf.

The cost of living space and heating, which the job center covers for recipients of unemployment benefit II, has been rising for years: in March 2021, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg regional directorate of the Employment Agency, an average of 427 euros per recipient was in March of the previous year 409, and in March 2016 377 euros.

The amount of the costs for living space and heating varies from municipality to municipality.

For example, a recipient of unemployment benefit II in Kleinmachnow, Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Nuthetal receives 397.50 euros for an apartment of up to 50 square meters.

In Brandenburg / Havel the maximum amount for one person is 419.10 euros.

And in the Eberswalde area it is a maximum of 356.50 euros for one person with a maximum living space of 25 to 50 square meters.

The rent index is always decisive.

In individual cases, there may also be more money, for example if there is a special need due to a care level.

In May it was 86,505 and in April 87,170.

According to the data, the numbers have been falling since 2016.
