After a fire in a homeless shelter in Emmerich in the Kleve district, the police are investigating an attempted homicide.
A 19-year-old resident heard "strange noises" from his locked room shortly after midnight on Saturday, the police in Krefeld said.
When he opened the door, flames and smoke hit him.
Emmerich - The young man warned the other residents.
Everyone left the building and alerted the fire brigade and police.
The fire was quickly extinguished.
The police said the investigation had led to a 22-year-old from Emmerich.
He was arrested at his home address.
No further information was given.
A homicide squad is investigating.
