Murnau - For nature lovers and long-established Murnau residents, this was certainly a shock: due to an acute danger in view of the inadequate stability, the striking linden tree on the Protestant church had to be felled.
The action took place on Friday: workers from a contracted specialist company from Oberammergau cut the tree piece by piece with the help of a lifting platform. Markt Murnau very much regrets this step: “It is a shame that this special tree, which characterizes the townscape, now has to be felled, after taking care of its preservation so well in the past. But people's safety must be a priority. Unfortunately, there is no other solution when the road situation is so busy, ”says market builder Klaus Tworek. Replanting is planned.
After a press release by the town hall administration found that the tree crown was noticeably lighter in the old winter linden tree and that even fine branches quickly died, the tree was carefully examined using modern methods and an expert opinion was drawn up.
A sonic pulse tomograph that examined the inside of the trunk revealed intense wood degradation that was caused by rot.
Specifically, it was about the infestation by the burn crust fungus.
According to the municipality, the preservation of the linden tree was therefore not possible - not even through a strong pruning.
The linden tree at the busy intersection was a very dangerous situation. Action had to be taken immediately.
