Mold on the wall is not only an aesthetic hazard, it endangers health. So what to do to prevent mold, and why bleach is not necessarily the right solution

Mold development - one of the most discouraging phrases heard this season more and more.

In the winter season all the members of the house shut themselves in the rooms, close the shutters and windows and try to prevent the rain and wind from entering, but there is an unwanted guest who manages to penetrate every window - the mold.

The same black stains on the wall, especially in the bathroom (but not only), are a sign of a colony of fungus and mold, and the darker the stain, a sign that the colony that has settled in your house is larger.

Note that if you do not see the mold, it does not mean it does not exist.

It may be hidden inside the furniture, or behind wallpaper.

So how do you know?

Smell.

If you detect the smell of mildew and stagnant water, a sign that you are close to a source of mold.

It is important to understand that mold is not just an aesthetic hazard.

If left untreated, it can cause respiratory problems and, in extreme cases, neurological damage.

Fans and sprayers

So what is being done to prevent the invasion of unwanted guests?

Home ventilation -

It is especially important to ventilate the bathroom, but also small and airtight rooms.

If there is no window, open a door, vacuum and ensure regular exchange of air into the room space.

Spraying -

One of the most successful ways to prevent this is to spray with anti-mold substances.

The treatment should be performed once every few months.

In this regard it is important to say that bleach is not a complete solution, as it whitens the stains, but does not completely destroy the mold and is therefore less recommended.

Exhaust -

If you have a tumble dryer, it is important to make sure that the exhaust pipe of the dryer is directed out of the house.

Proper spacing -

Keep a space of at least 20 inches between the furniture and the wall, to allow good exchange of air and prevent the accumulation of moisture near the wall.

Peeling a wall -

If there is significant moisture, peel the wall with a spatula and sand it with sandpaper.

Then spray the material and rinse the area with water dipped in a rag.

Alone or with a professional?

- All preventive measures can be performed alone, but if it is a very large colony of fungi and mold, you should seek the help of a professional.

The treatment usually costs about NIS 600 and lasts until next winter.

Not a fate

In conclusion, mold is a bundle of trouble, but certainly not a fate.

In a few simple steps you will avoid this trouble and maintain your health.

It is important to remember: if God forbid a colony of fungus and mold has developed in you, do not try to clean it, but to destroy it.

The reason: remnants of mold can develop and rehabilitate the colony.

Take care of thorough care, and in case you are unsure you should consult or enlist the services of a professional.
