“Wanted Handwerk - on Tour” is a platform that has been tried and tested for years to advertise high school students with creative ideas for an apprenticeship in the craft.
Due to the corona, the campaign had to take a break last year.
This year, however, the prerequisites, in compliance with the hygiene measures, allowed such a project day to be carried out again.
The schools were very willing to take part.
Most of the 22 educational institutions in the Kempten region and in some cases also from Oberallgäu were asked to participate in the measure within a very short period of time.
The concept, which is under the leadership of the district craftsmen, is funded by the employment agency and local authorities.
Try out professions
Last Wednesday, the day of action for the eighth and ninth graders of the secondary schools in Buchenberg, Weitnau and Waltenhofen took place in Buchenberg.
61 pupils were able to try their hand at carpentry, hairdresser, plant mechanic, baker, food salesman, electrician or painter / varnisher.
The construction industry in various directions was also involved.
Craft: underrated professions
"We would be happy and would speak of a success if 30 percent of a class opted for a technical training course," said Ute Esfeld, 2nd chairwoman of "Praxisbildung eV", the association that organizes and supervises the events. Many young people underestimated the attractiveness and the possibilities of a craft activity; "Wanted Handwerk" has created a form of orientation that is well received, emphasized Esfeld.
At the various trades and in small groups, the young people were able to gain initial experience in the aforementioned genres under the guidance of professionals.
Experts from the guild members were at their side with help and advice, and introduced them to technology, equipment and materials.
Many a future career starter was amazed at how interesting a trade can be and compared assumption with fact.
“There are already good people involved,” said the boss of a painting company, while he introduced stencil technology to young people.
