A special festival has now been celebrated in Peiting: Käte and Helmut Schönenborn have been married for 70 years and have therefore celebrated the wedding of grace.

A special festival has now been celebrated in Peiting: Käte and Helmut Schönenborn have been married for 70 years and have therefore celebrated the wedding of grace.

Peiting

- Money was tight, there was no honeymoon, even the wedding dress had to be borrowed.

In 1951, six years after the end of the Second World War, hardship prevailed in many parts of Germany, and the mood of economic optimism was still a long time coming.

Times were stormy, but for the Schönenborns they were the beginning of a marriage that lasted like a rock: Käte Schönenborn has been married to her husband Helmut for exactly 70 years.

Mercy Wedding.

Very few can do that.

And: 90-year-old Käte Schönenborn is in good health, she is doing well, she looks back with satisfaction on a fulfilled life - this is anything but a matter of course.

The woman from Peiting remembers October 20, 1951 well: It was warm, dry autumn weather, the sun was shining when they said yes in the New Apostolic Church in Peiting.

"It was a beautiful day, one that promised the future."

You are already great-great-grandparents

The marriage fell on fertile ground: the Schönenborns gave birth to five children, four girls and one boy.

They now have twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and they can even call themselves great-great-grandparents.

“The second is on its way,” she says proudly.

Käte Schönenborn can't really say what the secret of a long-lasting marriage is, but what you have to do to stay physically and mentally fit into old age.

“Good nutrition and lots of exercise,” she laughs.

She has ridden a bike all her life, and still likes to get on her bike today to do her errands - although the radius has of course been reduced significantly.

In the best of times, the Schönenborns covered hundreds of kilometers on their bikes.

Once she went from Peiting to her daughter, who lives in Stuttgart, in one go.

"We only had one night."

Congratulations from the second mayor

91-year-old Helmut Schönenborn is still walking well: every day he walks from Pater-Schelle-Strasse to the nearby construction site, where a kindergarten complex is currently being built. Back at the apartment, he can immediately inform his wife about the construction progress, first hand, so to speak. For the trained carpenter and passionate hobby craftsman, who worked for a long time in the mines in Peiting and Peißenberg, an affair of the heart.

Gabi Henschel, Effi Eckebrecht and Erika Schönenborn have also come to celebrate this memorable day.

The family sits together at the kitchen table, the look back gratefully when they were all little girls, played on the street, went to school and looked forward to one of the highlights of the year: the mining festival.

For Peiting's second mayor, Gunnar Prielmeier, it was also a matter of honor to stop by: “70 years - respect.

I congratulate you very much on this. "
