Midwives in France staged a strike to protest difficult working conditions and low wages.
"We must improve our working conditions and organize maternity hospitals," the French newspaper Le Parisien quoted Caroline Compote, Secretary-General of the National Confederation of Midwives, as saying, noting that Health Minister Olivier Veran had been contacted by phone and it is now necessary to continue pressure on the government and institutions.
"Our goal is that we can do our job well and that things are going well for the mothers and children in our care because it is so horrific to see the conditions in which women are being received and cared for in maternity hospitals," she added.
One of the unions demanded that the midwives' wages be raised in proportion to their responsibilities and training in the strike slogan.
This strike, which was organized yesterday, is considered the fourth of its kind after three previous strikes that were carried out during January, February and September of this year, with the aim of making the midwives' voice heard for the authorities and considering their demands.
France is constantly witnessing widespread protests and strikes against the economic policies of President Emmanuel Macron's government.
