The redesign of the Riviera is entering the concrete phase.

The Miesbach city council has now given the green light to pour the developed concept into a plan.

But the renewed green area has a proud price of over 600,000 euros, which was clearly criticized by the Free Voters.

Miesbach

- The new Riviera is a joint effort.

Citizens were able to contribute ideas, and the city council groups had a say in several meetings of the working group.

On Thursday evening, planner Elisabeth Niggl from the Frei Raum office in Fischbachau presented the result.

And a lot has changed compared to the initial draft.

The areas for rest and outdoor fitness will remain as well as the playground and the open space on Bundesstrasse 472. There will be seating steps, benches, hammocks, a slackline, an arm trainer that can also be used by wheelchair users, a floor trampoline and a pendulum seesaw are already financed by crowdfunding (we reported), as well as an existing play ship and a climbing frame.

New additions are a drinking fountain and a water playground in which natural stones form a stream and stainless steel elements offer opportunities for damming, flooding and playing.

When it came to lighting, the choice was no longer on lanterns, but on half-height bollard lights that are dimmable and equipped with motion detectors.

This is to ensure that the insect-friendly LED light is bright enough to make the path safe, but not too bright so as not to disturb the residents at night.

Barrier-free access to the green valley

The biggest innovation, however, is the barrier-free access to the B 472, suggested by the disability officer Elisabeth Neuhäusler.

In order to offer the senior citizens of the neighboring retirement home in particular a moderately inclined access to the green area below, a new, narrow path is to be created as an arch that surrounds the open space.

An investment for a better quality of life

Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) was satisfied with the result: "We want to create something special." He also wanted this public participation.

The barrier-free path with its maximum six percent gradient is important and enjoyable.

Free voters are calling for a slimmed-down version

But the overall package has its price.

The construction and acquisition costs are put at exactly 612,850 euros.

A lot of money, it was generally stated.

Too much money, warned the Free Voters: “With the new mayor, a new dynamic has come in,” criticized system consultant Michael Lechner.

With Braunmiller's predecessor, Ingrid Pongratz, they had agreed “not to overload the Riviera and to pay attention to the costs.

Now we are on a line that is far too luxurious for me.

Money doesn't seem to matter ”.

Costly earth moving, drinking water wells, water feature - “It's a few sizes too big for me.

We are not a big city.

I ask for disarmament. "

Seemüller: "It takes guts ..."

His group colleague Markus Seemüller also pointed out that one should save electricity and drinking water - water features and drinking fountains are therefore counterproductive.

"It takes guts not to fulfill all of your wishes," he stated.

"Our group would like a more moderate redesign."

But with that the Free Voters were alone.

"A special place justifies special measures", Erhard Pohl (CSU) justified the deliberate upgrading of the Riviera.

Paul Fertl (SPD) does not like the high costs either, but he is hoping for a 200,000 euro grant from the Leader pot - "then it should just go like this with 400,000 euros".

On the other hand, Second Mayor Astrid Güldner (Greens) spoke of a “coherent design”.

The slackline also offers something for young people, and the drinking fountain offers the opportunity to fill the drinking bottle without packaging waste.

She suggested a little more bank design, but overall “it's a good project for Miesbach”.

Which in the end found approval against the votes of the Free Voters.
