Berg increases the property tax. That for built-up land increases from 290 to 350 percent, that for agricultural land to 320 percent. In the future, this will add around 290,000 euros per year to the municipal coffers. Berg could be a role model for other communities.

Berg increases the property tax.

That for built-up land increases from 290 to 350 percent, that for agricultural land to 320 percent.

In the future, this will add around 290,000 euros per year to the municipal coffers.

Berg could be a role model for other communities.

Berg - Success on the second attempt: Berg's mayor Rupert Steigenberger and his treasurer Florian Bendele were able to convince a majority of the municipal council to increase the property tax. With 11: 7 votes, the committee voted for an increase in property tax B for built-up properties from 290 to 350 percent. The administration would have liked to increase the property tax A for agricultural land in the same way. The municipal council did not go along with this. With twelve votes against, the move failed with 350 percentage points. Farmers will have to pay 320 percentage points in the future, according to the 17: 1 decision.

This means that more than 290,000 euros more will flow into the Berger cash register, 287,000 euros from property tax B alone. In 2020, property tax B had an income of 1.39 million euros, property tax A 39,000 euros. In the budget meeting last year, the administration wanted to increase this tax, but did not find a majority in the local council with this proposal.

Now treasurer Bendele was pleased to bring the subject back to the council table.

His arguments hadn't changed compared to the previous year.

“We should be able to cover the running costs.

That is not evident for the following years ”, he appealed to the local council and argued that the tax was last increased in 2003 and that Berg was set low in comparison with rural districts.

"In terms of the tax burden per inhabitant, we are in third from last place."

On average, an increase to 350 percent would mean an additional burden of 80 euros for property tax B and 20 euros for the individual payer, he calculated.

"The properties have also seen a small increase in value over the past 20 years."

Katrin Stefferl-Wuppermann (Greens) suggested not asking the farmers to pay quite as much and brought in 320 percent for the property tax A in the discussion. Peter Sebald (EUW) thought an increase in both taxes to 320 percent would be better: “That will be passed on to the tenants.” Andreas Hlavaty (CSU) and Jonas Goercke (QUH) considered an increase in both taxes to 350 percent to be justifiable. "The development of land prices in Berg is exorbitant," said Hlavaty. “Also for agricultural land.” Werner Streitberger (SPD) wanted to send a savings signal to the citizens at the same time as the increase. "Now is the wrong time with this explosion in energy prices and inflation like never before."

Mayor Steigenberger reminded that the community had also paid for the broadband connection and the fire brigade - all property-related costs.

Dr.

Andreas Ammer (QUH) was convinced that “no social hardship” would arise in Berg through a tax increase.

Chamberlain Bendele predicts that many municipalities will follow suit.

"According to information from various municipalities, an increase is planned." On average, property tax B is currently 305 percent and A is 323 percent.

Across Bavaria, the assessment rates are 347 and 350 percent.
