New idea: store parcels temporarily and then drive them out by cargo bike

Everyone sees it every day: the most varied of parcel services are on the move and deliver their goods.

In doing so, they often block footpaths and cycle paths, especially on large roads, so as not to disrupt traffic.

Couldn't that be changed?

Gröbenzell - There is no room for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users, parents with prams or seniors with walkers.

Walter Voit (Greens), advisor for traffic, energy and climate protection, now had an idea for his community to solve the dilemma.

He had argued that representatives of the parcel services, the traders, the municipal council, energy companies, such as Kommenergie, sit down at a table and advise on improvements.

Micro-depots

Voit also had a specific proposal for a solution: So-called micro-depots could be set up on an area of 15 to 25 square meters, where parcel suppliers can bring their goods, which are then delivered by electric vehicles or cargo bikes.

This could reduce CO2 emissions, fine dust and nitrogen oxides.

Local shops can also store goods in the micro-depots, which can then be picked up by customers stress-free after the shop closes.

Voit had found out that this was already done in some German cities.

UPS deliver in Munich by cargo bike, Hermes Germany in Hamburg as well.

In Dortmund, several parcel services are jointly using a depot as part of a pilot project, a project funded by the EU.

Majority not for it

The majority of the municipal council could not convince Voit with his application, with 14:10 votes the committee rejected the proposal.

Gregor von Uckermann (SPD) admitted that the numerous parcel deliveries created conflicts and dangers, but could not imagine that the parcel services would sit down at a table in Groebenzell.

He rather expects this at a higher level.

Mayor Martin Schäfer (UWG) also emphasized that there are large cities where the delivery of parcels, as Voit had suggested, is handled.

For Gröbenzell, he sees private transport as a problem, for example when the people of Gröbenzell are on the way to the large recycling center in their cars at the weekend.
