The Russian Foreign Ministry called today on the United Nations Mission in Kosovo to ensure the security of Russian diplomats in Pristina, after the unilaterally declared President of the Republic of Kosovo (Vyusa Osmani) announced the expulsion of two Russian diplomats.
"We call on the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and the international forces, in accordance with its powers, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1244, to ensure the necessary security and appropriate conditions for the work of the personnel of the Russian mission in Pristina," RIA Novosti quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying.
Zakharova added that Pristina's actions towards Russian diplomats will not affect their legal status because they are accredited to the UN Mission in Kosovo and have nothing to do with the unilaterally declared state.
The President of Kosovo said in a statement yesterday that she directed the expulsion of two Russian diplomats, claiming that they pose a threat to national security and the constitutional order in her country.
