Gammelsdorf

- A few days ago it was finally time for Jan-Erik Scheller from Moosburg: The weather was just right for a special day. A day that no pilot forgets so easily and that Scheller will remember very well for a long time to come. Nevertheless, it came as a bit of a surprise for the student pilot when Franz-Josef Draxinger and Wilhelm Pongratz, the volunteer flight instructors at LSV Albatros in Gammelsdorf, no longer sat behind the student in the glider, but this time standing next to the cockpit preparing him for the very first solo flight.

This represents the conclusion of the first part of the three-part training to become a glider pilot. After countless starts in a two-seater together with a flight instructor, the student can finally "fly freely" and all alone in the sky - observed by the flight instructor on the ground, but only connected by radio - gain more flight experience.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The following section of the training is then primarily about building up flight time and improving flying skills.

Jan-Erik Scheller, known in aviation circles as "Sam" because of his work as a professional firefighter at Munich Airport, will be retrained for a single-seat glider in the coming season.

However, since gliding is a team sport in spite of everything, because the club planes in Gammelsdorf cannot take off without the ground crew, the LSV Albatros is also delighted with the successful training of two new winch drivers.

Elias Draxinger from Essenbach and Ilja Sedov from Landshut can now operate the take-off winch independently and thus pull the gliders into the Gammelsdorf sky.
