At about 2 pm today (23rd), officers from the Special Duty Squad of Wong Tai Sin Police District launched an operation against illegal street gambling in the area of Fung Tak Village and arrested 4 local men, aged between 62 and 81, on suspicion of "outside the casino" Gambling in any place or on the street".
They and three other men who were watching were suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Regulations (Chapter 599G), and the officers issued fixed penalty notices to them.
During the operation, the police also seized a deck of cards and a small amount of cash.
The police reminded the public that gambling on the street is illegal.
According to the law, anyone who operates or manages or controls illegal gambling on the street is convicted of a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and imprisonment for 2 years.
Anyone who engages in illegal gambling on the street is convicted of a maximum fine of HK$30,000 and imprisonment for 9 months.
The police urge everyone to take care of themselves and others and strictly abide by relevant laws to help control the epidemic and reduce the risk of the virus spreading in the community.
