The "Standard Chartered Marathon", which has been suspended for more than two years due to the epidemic, is back today (24th). It is also the first major sports event in Hong Kong with public participation since the outbreak of the pneumonia epidemic.

18,500 contestants will compete in the marathon, half marathon and 10km races today. Runners need to complete 2 doses of vaccinations and undergo nucleic acid testing before the race.

The conference also reminded runners to follow the rules and not to wear political or slogan costumes. Violators will be refused entry, and law enforcement agencies will be required to intervene if necessary.

Since there are no overseas world-class runners to participate this year, it is expected that there will be a "local ginger" contest. The latest Standard Chartered Marathon was in mid-February 2019. New crown pneumonia broke out in Hong Kong in January 2020. Subsequently, the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association decided to cancel the marathon originally scheduled for February 8th and 9th.

The 2021 Standard Chartered Marathon was originally expected to be held in January this year. It was postponed several times due to the epidemic and was finally successfully held on October 24.

The previous marathons were held at the end of winter and early spring, but this year is in late autumn. I believe that all runners will experience a unique running experience.

This year's marathon and half-marathon races all start on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. The starting point of the 10 km race is at the West Harbour Crossing Kowloon Toll Plaza. All three races end in Victoria Park.

This year, many "local gingers" have long been gearing up, including Yao Jiezhen, Wei Geng, and Cheng Xiaoya. The competition is fierce, and the men's and women's championships will win $15,000 in prize money.

Under the epidemic situation, this year's competition has special epidemic prevention arrangements. Runners need to wear masks and can only be removed from 50 meters to 100 meters after the starting point.

Runners also need to complete the new crown vaccination. They have also been tested for the virus earlier, wear identification bracelets, and can also undergo voluntary rapid testing before and after the start.

The conference welcomes citizens to watch and cheer on the track, but the race track and the scope of the conference generally comply with the social gathering restrictions.

In the past at the Standard Chartered Marathon, some runners would wear fancy clothes or display slogans with political appeals. The conference stated earlier that there would be no restrictions on clothing colors and slogans. If persuasion fails, law enforcement agencies will be required to intervene and assist.
