One dead and one seriously injured.
This is the balance sheet of the road accident that took place this evening in Quartu Sant'Elena in the metropolitan city of Cagliari.
An Alfa 147 driven by a young man of about 25 drove the Nuova Orientale Sarda in the wrong direction and crashed head-on into a Fiat Punto.
The 147 driver died instantly on impact, while the Punto driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari with a red code assigned.
It is not clear how many kilometers the 147 has traveled in the wrong direction: several reports have come from other motorists who have dodged the vehicle.
The carabinieri of the Radiomobile of the Quartu Sant'Elena Company, arrived on the spot together with firefighters and 118 ambulances, are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.
Traffic in the area is experiencing severe slowdowns.
