Union parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus has praised the government of the outgoing Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) in North Rhine-Westphalia as an example for the CDU in the federal government.
Laschet understands politics as a "team sport", said Brinkhaus on Saturday at the state party conference of the NRW CDU in Bielefeld.
Bielefeld - If the CDU is to be reestablished in the federal government, only one message can go out from Bielefeld: "Politics is team sport, it depends on everyone, it depends on the many," said Brinkhaus.
When he took office as state party leader in 2012, Laschet “rebuilt” the NRW CDU after its worst state election result and finally led it into the state government in 2017, said Brinkhaus.

Laschet successor in North Rhine-Westphalia: Laumann wants Wüst
The NRW-CDU wanted to elect Laschet's state transport minister Hendrik Wüst (46) as the new state party leader in Bielefeld.
The change in personnel becomes necessary after Laschet, who ran as the Union's candidate for chancellor, had already made a decision before the federal election not to remain in his offices in North Rhine-Westphalia even if he failed.
Wüst is expected to be elected as the new Prime Minister in the state parliament next Wednesday.
