The designated North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has already given the starting signal for the state election campaign for the coming week.
“I want to take off,” said Wüst on Saturday at the state party conference in Bielefeld.
Next week the NRW-CDU will start the “You count” campaign.
"We will start listening immediately," said Wüst in his application speech for the state chairmanship of the NRW-CDU.
Bielefeld - Everyone in North Rhine-Westphalia should be heard with their worries and needs.
The state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia are on May 15, 2022.
The approximately 660 delegates celebrated Wüst, as before the outgoing Prime Minister Armin Laschet, with a standing ovation.
Many held up signs that read "Team Wüst".
State Transport Minister Wüst was to be elected as Laschet's successor as state party leader following the speech.
There was no opposing candidate.
Wüst is to be elected as the new Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia next Wednesday in the state parliament.
Union Chancellor candidate Laschet had already announced before the federal election that he would not return to North Rhine-Westphalia even in the event of failure.
