Almost exactly three years to the day after the first work began, the district inaugurated the extension to the district office on Friday.

District Administrator Stefan Frey spoke again of the “most beautiful district office in Bavaria”, former District Administrator Karl Roth recalled many adversities.

Starnberg

- Karl Roth, District Administrator until 2020, had to deal with the extension to the District Office a lot in his second term of office, it wasn't always fun. Let us remind you of the first, completely absurd cost estimate of 6.5 million euros, which Roth does not yet know who actually brought it into the world. In the end it is 23.4 million euros. At the official inauguration of the new building on Friday afternoon, everything was forgotten and Karl Roth was satisfied. “It's like it used to be,” he said, referring to his twelve years in office, “and yet brand new”. Some of Roth's decisions have an impact, not necessarily to the delight of his successor, Stefan Frey.

"Today I have to lead you on the black ice," announced Frey when greeting him with a view of Roth. Reason: Karl Roth had decided that the district administrator would stay in the old building, Frey would have liked to move into the extension. When that was decided, Roth joked, Frey had not yet been mentioned. The real reason was the proximity to the meeting room, in which the district administrator often has to be - for deliberations, but also to greet events. Roth feared that he would be stopped so often on the way from the new to the old building that he would be late. The district administrator's office is only a minor aspect of the expansion.

Around 430 of the total of 572 district employees can now work in the district office.

Many people liked the branch offices, said the Protestant pastor Johannes de Fallois at the blessing, but there was no contact with others.

The Catholic pastor Dr.

Tamás Czopf, who took out a small bottle of holy water.

Only skills help with the construction itself, but through the blessing the extension gets a connection to the source of life.

The two clergymen had brought a small cross to Frey as a present, without knowing whether one would be hung in the administration building - after all, all world religions were guests there.

Frey and Roth recalled the history of the cultivation, which goes back ten years. The old district council spoke of "adversity without end", of problems with the approval of the city. He always looked out the window at the planned building site and “waited and waited”. Frey referred to contamination in the soil, to the difficult building ground - the first pile of the foundation had sunk so deep that it could not be found again. Incidentally, the extension stands on 325 piles that reach up to 70 meters deep. All together would be twelve kilometers long, said Dominik Fahr from Auer Weber Architects, who designed both the old and the new building. The district administrators are permanently happy about the overall impression of the district office - the old building received the German Architecture Prize in 1989. Roth knows of visitors who have only walked past it several times, because they didn't think the building was a government agency.

For Frey, however, it is crucial that it is "a house for everyone" that makes a district administrator's heart jump.

With brightness and other things, the building carries the service concept of a “great team” to the outside world.

This is also how Roth sees it: The architecture and its friendliness are carried over to customers and employees.

Prof. Fritz Auer, planner of the 33-year-old old building, attested to all district administrators for the past 45 years that they had become fans of architecture in the course of the planning.

At the time, he was inspired by water, wood and the rather low buildings of the water sports complex and did not plan an official building, as was customary at the time.

The quality of that time continues in the cultivation.

Frey assumes that the budget of 23.4 million euros will be adhered to.

The district is proud of the energy balance, because the requirements are exceeded.

When it comes to heat generation, said Fahr, the construction is climate-neutral, the solar system even produces more electricity than needed.

Back to the district office once more: Karl Roth advised his successor to enjoy the peace and quiet at the current location.
