On October 31, 1947, the General Assembly decided that October 24 of each year would be United Nations Day, the day on which the Charter of the International Organization entered into force in 1945. Then, in 1971, the Assembly recommended that member states celebrate it at the national level. With the aim of gaining the support of the peoples and introducing them to the objectives of the organization set forth in Article 1 of the Charter, to maintain international peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations and to achieve international cooperation, in addition to introducing the principles of the organization set forth in Article 2 of the Charter, which is the equality of sovereignty among all its members and good faith in the commitments they took on themselves under the Charter, and abstain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State and not to interfere in the internal affairs of States.

In a message on the occasion of United Nations Day, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the countries of the world to strive to end the conflicts that increase tension in our world, explaining that (the Covid-19 pandemic), conflicts, hunger, poverty and climate emergencies remind us that our world is far from perfect, but it also clarifies Solidarity is the only way forward.

We must come together to meet the grand challenges and advance the Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring that everyone, everywhere has access to COVID-19 vaccines, by securing and upholding the rights and dignity of all people, especially the poorest and most disadvantaged, and by seeking to end the conflicts that are tearing our world apart, and by pledging with bold climate commitments to save and rise to our planet and build more inclusive, interconnected and effective global governance.

He stressed that the values ​​that have been the driving force of the United Nations Charter for the past 76 years, namely peace, development, human rights and opportunities for all, do not have an expiration date. the United Nations, its potential and all its hopes.

Russia stressed that the continuous attacks on the Charter of the United Nations and attempts to replace its central structure with the so-called rules-based system with double standards are destructive and dangerous, calling for adherence to the principles of the Charter and international law, given the dangers the world is currently facing as a result of deviation from these principles.
