Battlefield 2042 Beta (EA, Dice)

During the weekend of 6.10 this month, DICE and EA companies allowed all players to participate in the open beta of the expected Battlefield 2042 game. The game is expected to reach us on 19.11 after being postponed once.

Battlefield 2042 will come to us three years since the previous game in the franchise - Battlefield V that took place in World War II, and it seems that the developer DICE has decided to hide some of the features we are already used to.

The new game continues the plot of Battlefield 4 which came out in 2013, even though Battlefield 1 which took place in World War II came out in 2016.

If I managed to confuse you, then I probably achieved the goal that the developer and distributor were trying to achieve.

But it does not matter because for those of you who know the franchise - we are not here for the plot, but for fighting an insane amount of other actors while using various war vehicles.

The future is already here

The beta was accepted by the community in divided opinions, and attracted quite a bit of criticism, but we will return to this in the end.

The purpose of the beta was first and foremost to allow developers to help the community locate various bugs on all consoles (in the previous generation the number of players at any given time would be only 64) and the PC - and it was not that there were any bugs missing.

While the beta of the previous title - Battlefield 5, felt much more baked, the beta of Battlefield 2042 felt very initial: ranging from problematic aircraft control, strange bugs in the physical engine, a controversial UI that does not always function.

But why shrink?

Let's talk about what's good.

Chaos, chaos and some more chaos

Karl von Klausowitz, one of the fathers of modern warfare, claimed that "the battle is a kingdom of uncertainty" and in Battlefield 2042 takes this sentence to the maximum. The significant innovation of the new game is in the ability to allow up to 128 players to play together on one map. Throw in the equation at least three helicopters on each side (light, attack, supply), fighter jet, tank, light anti-tank vehicle, Jeep and God knows what vehicles the full game will bring us, and you will get insane chaos non-stop. And do not forget the weather either The air and the various map events like the tornado that tore the beta map lengthwise and widthwise that draws everything that happens in its path - including planes and heavy vehicles.

Unfortunately, according to the beta version - the rush is also celebrated in the interface menus and various features.

The new game slightly changes the class structure of the series.

Now - choose Specialist (which at the moment is completely identical on both sides), but this mainly affects their skin and one gadget they can use - like the Grapple we saw in the video.

Then you can choose the set of weapons and other objects that you will carry to the battlefield and this time for positive or negative - you have no limit.

You can take a sniper rifle and carry first aid kits and C5 chargers (the future version of the C4).

You can take her Speicalist a gun that allows her to revive players remotely, and equip her with ammo boxes to supply your teammates and flamethrower for car repair.

The main problem right now is that the game did not bother to explain this, and the problematic UI did not facilitate understanding.

In general - it seems that each new feature brings with it more of a mess than a blessing, such as the FLYWHEEL that allows you to change parts of the weapon while playing: on the one hand - it is a welcome feature that ensures you can make weapon adjustments depending on the battle you are about to enter.

Are you preparing to break into a building?

Put a reflex sight and a cartridge with short-range bullets.

Are you moving to the next area in the game?

Long barrel and telescopic sight are the solution for you.

But - the menu is not so smooth and does not indicate the shortcomings of any addition to the weapon.

Who's available in Allenby?

One of the familiar problems in Battlefield, a franchise known for its huge maps, is the difficulty of getting from point to point on the map when your vehicles have been destroyed, or when you are far from the base. At DICE, they found the "modern" solution to this problem - dropping vehicles directly onto the battlefield. Did your plane crash and you at the end of the map? No problem - with a few clicks of a button using another FLYWHEEL you can call the vehicle you will be riding to the next destination. Another advantage is that this time they gave up the CLASS pilot / mechanic who, once out of the car, has no weapons other than a gun.

Anyone who has played Battlefield 5 will be familiar with this feature: in the previous game we were able to supply our teammates with ammunition and even order artillery fire and even a devastating V2 bomb.

But while in the previous game our ability to order these reinforcements depended on our team’s performance and any such “order” cost us points.

This time, in the spirit of the hustle and bustle surrounding the game and especially the beta - it was not clear what the ability to order heavier vehicles like the tank, the lightweight ADF and even the small dog-like robot to help us fight depended on. The jeep could at least be ordered at any stage.

What is missing from the existing one?

The most notable thing about the Battlefield 2042 beta is the lack of a number of features that have become significant for fans of the series (even if they are with us for a while).

In the area of player movement: the ability to run in a subdued manner, the ability to lean and peek around corners, jump backwards while firing, roll to soften a fall after jumping from a high place. In the

area of the map: Ability to build fortifications at the push of a button. This feature added additional tactical depth to the game, allowing players to score points and make a point on the map difficult to conquer by the enemy.

Even in the area of map destruction, it seems that now it is possible to destroy to our liking fewer elements on the map - something that was especially noticeable in Battlefield 5, where it was possible to space entire buildings.

As mentioned - the Classes are also quite gone and ineffective, with them the Combat Roles that were replaced by the Specialists. The UX / UI are less generous now, and in the past the player would get accurate information about the score he gained after killing other players or destroying We do not know how close we are to the other members of the squad, and at the moment it is difficult to know what kind of equipment they carry with them (because as mentioned, there are no Classes). The

list goes on to include more important and less important things, some of which may be added until the game's release on November 19 (after it was postponed), but for now - the community has received the game with mixed feelings.

Despite claims by EA and DICE that the beta is a relatively early version of the game designed to reassure the audience, a number of DICE employees provided anonymous quotes that it was a beta of the game from the September area, and that the game mode was very bad.

This is to blame for two key players - the distributor EA that everyone loves to hate, and who is pressuring the Swedish studio to provide an unfinished game for the upcoming holiday season, and the Corona plague that has devoured all the cards and made everything more complicated.

Between two cities - Wardsenk and Stockholm

As we noted, the gaming world has not quietly accepted the Battlefield 2042 beta. Some of the allegations have been made that EA pressured DICE to produce a game that would hit the Call of Duty player base, with an emphasis on Warzone. So to be precise - here are some of the facts: The previous game - Battlefield 5 came out at the end of 2018, in parallel with Call of Duty Black Ops 4, under Treyarch as a key studio, and of course Activision publisher, who also abandoned the single-player, and became the AAA game The first to try his luck in the Battle Royale formula.

He failed so badly to hit the standout games back then - PUBG appealing to the older audience, and of course, Fortnite. Slightly trendy late, in March 2019 developer DICE unveiled Firestrom, its Battle Royale take on the Battlefield series. Needless to say, he too, like his main competitor - did not garner much success.

The reason for this was a game that came out under another EA studio in a pretty complete surprise.

These were Respawn Entertaiment with Apex Legends.

A game that was based on the outdated engine of Titanfall 2 and swept the global gaming audience with an emphasis on the standout streamers who rushed to broadcast the new and surprising game.

(Photo: Official Website, EA, Dice)

Most of these streamers have been released because of the previous games mentioned - Call of Duty and Battlefield. When it was time for Warzone to come out, and this time Activision learned a thing or two from its main competitor EA and the successful launch of Apex Legends, the new Battle-Royale Warzone also came out in complete surprise, about 3 months after the release of the soft reboot Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Therefore - the claims that EA pressured DICE to release a compatible game Modern Warfare are stupid. The two franchises play back and forth between World War II and modern battles (or near future). After all, the upcoming title of Call of Duty: Vanguard goes back to World War II under the scepter of Sledgehammer Games studio, and the game Warzone will receive weapon updates and most likely a map, similar to what happened with and after the release of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.

Beyond that - the claim that EA is trying to steal the big streamers that Warzone is playing to is baseless.

It is customary that when a game comes out - the streamers are invited to the various exposure events like the various journalists.

Some of them sign various promotion agreements in exchange for playing hours (User Acquisition in the professional language).

But over time - it is the audience that determines what the streamer will play.

Most of the income of the various streamers comes directly and indirectly from the audience.

If the audience votes with their feet - the streamers will also abandon the game afterwards.

(Photo: Official Website, EA, Dice)

We saw this when most of the great streamers combined games such as Among Us, Sea of Thieves or jumped to visit back in Apex Legends, Fortnite or even Battlefield 1 and 5 Rahmana Letzelen. EA simply tries to produce a good game that will interest the player base, and sometimes it seems that the two major publishers have some coordination between them - when one develops a game based on World War II, the other chooses to develop a game based on modern wars, and vice versa.

For us - the audience, it remains to breathe deeply, hoping that DICE will provide us with a successful game as it knows (or one with bugs it will fix later, as has happened many times), listen to reviews, and decide through the wallet which game to support.

In the end - the AAA world is driven by money, and if not big money was involved in this world, we would not have won successful games like Battlefield 5, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and aspirations also the next two games that are just around the corner - Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042.

And even if not - it's not that we lack something to play, no? See you on the virtual battlefield.
