More than 3000 women have benefited from awareness sessions and field tours organized by the Family Planning Association branch in Lattakia, as part of the activities of the Pink Month for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Indicative information on how to self-examination and the necessity of doing it periodically to avoid the development of the disease and the transition to the stage of chemotherapy or radiotherapy, symptoms that lead to the possibility of contracting the disease, the factors that help in its spread, and other health issues of concern to women in general were the focus of discussion in the dialogue sessions.

Ghiath Zibok, the local coordinator of the Family Planning Association in Lattakia, said in a statement to SANA reporter, the efforts made by the association’s staff in the clinics, in addition to 3 mobile medical teams to reach the largest possible number of women and girls, where each team consists of (a doctor, a midwife, a psychological support provider and a case manager). and social communication supervisors) that provide integrated health services such as free examinations, medicines and breast cancer awareness sessions for families in the targeted villages and areas in the countryside of Al-Haffah, Qardaha and Lattakia.

Zibok added that a network has been established with the Directorate of Health and the Syrian Charitable Society for Breast Tumors to transfer women who need a mammogram or ultrasound, according to the case, noting that the association’s activity is not limited to daily awareness sessions in clinics and field tours in the countryside, but goes beyond it to schools to spread awareness among girls, through the Center Youth of the association’s branch, in cooperation with the Revolutionary Youth Union, to target younger age groups and teach them how to conduct a self-examination so that it becomes a behavior that a girl acquires for life and contributes to maintaining her health.

Dr. Lama Abu Qassem, a gynecologist, explained that the main goal is to spread awareness among women and encourage them to undergo the necessary medical examinations and break the barrier of fear for them and encourage them to reveal their concerns and help them confront it in order to avoid its negative physical, psychological and societal effects, with emphasis on the fact that breast cancer is a treatable condition if It was detected early.

The two young women, Zainab Saqr and Hala Al-Bari from the psychological support team in the association, pointed out the importance of awareness sessions in opening channels for frank dialogue, answering women's inquiries, spreading sound health concepts and correcting false beliefs.
