Taipei-Sana
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted northern Taiwan today, but no injuries were reported.
Reuters quoted the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center as saying that the quake struck at a depth of 40 km, 67 km southeast of the capital, Taipei.
Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea and is prone to earthquakes. More than 100 people died in the 2016 earthquake in southern Taiwan and more than 2,000 people died in a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in 1999.
