The wave of murders that has befallen the Arab sector in Israel in recent months puts those who bear the responsibility for public safety and security on their shoulders with great embarrassment - that is: the police.
Although the police and the Ministry of Internal Security are working on plans and reinforcements, the quantities of weapons - most of which have been seized in the sector since the beginning of the year - tell the whole story.

Data obtained by us shows that about 5,000 suspects were arrested this year on suspicion of weapons and shooting offenses - 92% of them belong to Arab society. 96% of the weapons seized throughout the country were held by criminal elements in Arab society. A total of 34,000 weapons were seized by October this year, including 11,273 bullets, 210 bullets and 9,216 pods in the Arab sector alone. 6,017 ammunition items were found in the Arab sector and another 1,681 in the Jewish sector. 464 fireworks were seized among Arabs, compared with 64 among Jews. 500. Still, the police do not yet have the full cooperation of all the heads of the sector.
While the public responsibility for crime in the sector rests with the police, the organization clarifies in closed conversations that the problem of violence in Arab society is deep and requires treatment and mobilization of other factors, including parents and educators, religious, spiritual and academic leadership, and local leadership.
"We will significantly strengthen the Israeli citizen's sense of security and strengthen deterrence and governance," the police promise, in rhetoric that sounds familiar.
"Deciphering the murders in society is not a simple task," the police admit, "the police face many challenges during the investigation, from lack of cooperation on the part of the citizens to vague murder scenes."
Last week, five murders were solved in Arab society, and in a quick police operation, another murder case of a young woman in the north was prevented and dozens of other murders were thwarted.
In the past week, 30 weapons were found in police operations.
In recent years, more than 600 police officers working in Arab localities have been recruited, and eight new police stations and six "police" points have been opened.
All of these, of course, do not yet help eradicate this violence.
