Bad Wiessee - cycling on the Tegernsee should become more attractive.

The aim of the Bad Wiessee community is to achieve this.

Measures have now been presented.

In 2020 the municipality of Bad Wiessee joined the working group for cycle-friendly municipalities (AGFK) and commissioned a cycle traffic concept.

The results of a first planning stage were then presented in 2021.

Now it becomes even more concrete.

At the latest meeting of the transport committee, mobility planner Philipp Herzog from the Kaulen planning office in Aachen presented the progress of the project, including a catalog of measures.

The route network covers around 32 kilometers, explained Herzog, explaining the total scope.

First, two employees on site had an idea of the situation.

Existing cycle paths were examined and evaluated for deficiencies, quality standards were defined and options for expansion were sought.

Herzog emphasized that it was not the endeavor to create new paths.

Rather, the existing network of trails should be designed and expanded to be bicycle-friendly.

The result of the analysis is a network plan that is intended to do justice to both everyday and leisure traffic.

Way to school already super-axis

In comparison with other municipalities, Bad Wiessee is starting on a very good level, said Herzog. The installation of wheel protection strips on the federal road and the optimization of the signage are positive steps. More are to follow. Herzog listed a total of 57 points in his concept. As an example, he cited the Sonnenfeldweg, which could serve as a shared footpath and bike path in the future, but would have to be widened and signposted for this purpose. However, discussions are necessary here because of the land ownership situation.

The way to school is already a super axis, judged the planner.

By widening and renovating the pavement, it should be more convenient to use.

The continuation of the protective strips on the federal road in the direction of Kreuth is also a desideratum.

Limiting the speed on Seestrasse to 30 km / h should also ensure more safety.

"That would be done relatively quickly," said Herzog.

Lindenplatz as a neuralgic point

The project also focuses on the safety of the younger generation.

Instead of expecting them to continue to walk to school on the cycle lane on the busy main road, the expansion of a parallel axis running to the west could ensure more safety for the children.

Herzog suggested designating Birkenstrasse as a bicycle road, possibly with a colored pavement.

It was also suggested to mark obstacles in the way more clearly.

For example, the bollards on the Ringseeweg could pose a risk in the dark.

Herzog recommended additional floor markings here.

Lindenplatz is still a neuralgic point.

Because of the main road, neither a speed limit nor structural changes are possible there.

Information signs and markings in the form of pictograms could make mixed traffic safer.

Bicycle racks are missing

There is also an urgent need for parking facilities.

There are currently four of them in the local area, some of which are in poor condition, said Herzog.

In particular, the old front wheel holders as at the elementary school should be replaced by newer models, whereby weather protection should also be taken into account here.

At the lido, for example, you can install wooden leaning brackets, as they were already installed in front of the open-air pool.

“They fit in well with the townscape,” said the planner.

In any case, a uniform design is desirable here.

He also rated the new leaning bars on Lindenplatz positively.

Two danger spots in Bad Wiessee

Bernd Kuntze-Fechner (SPD) again pointed out two danger spots: There was no cycle lane between Bussi Baby and Söllbach, which is why cyclists used the sidewalk there as well as on the Ringsee.

Peter Kathan (CSU) suggested that Seestrasse should be reserved for bicycle traffic, possibly including the pedestrian zone at Lindenplatz as a deduction and also “Am Strandbad”.

Johannes von Miller (Greens) added Adrian-Stoop-Straße to the idea: "This is always the race track when the main road is tight."

The package of measures includes 24 immediate measures.

Cost: 102,000 euros.

Short-term (67,000 euros), medium-term (240,000 euros) and three long-term measures (182,000 euros) are to follow.

The concept should be implemented in 2031.
