Isny - bus, bike, car, train: With the mobility survey, Lena Klause and Marion Kolb from the city wanted to find out which topics will be important for the future.

They like to walk, complain about their bike paths and want express buses and the comeback of the train connection to Leutkirch. They use public transport less. These are some of the results of the large mobility survey that was carried out in the “Städtle” last summer. Out of 2,000 representatively selected citizens, just under 700 took part, and answers came online. With the survey, the mobility managers Lena Klause and Marion Kolb from the city wanted to find out how the Isnyers tick in terms of mobility and locomotion and which topics will be important for the future.

On average, every household has almost three bicycles and almost two automobiles at their disposal.

20 percent of the survey participants do not own a car.

A quarter of the population gets on their bicycles every day, two thirds walk every day, and local public transport also runs smoothly.

Two and a half hours to the vocational school: Express buses required

No wonder, it said at the meeting of the Isny City Council Committee for Technology and Environment: “Many buses are on the way too long, the connections are not optimal.” Trainees from Isny need two and a half hours to get to the vocational school in Ravensburg.

And commuters to Kempten and Leutkirch spend a lot of time on the bus to work.

"We therefore advocate express buses with very few stops on these routes," is a demand from the survey.

"We are already in talks with the Oberallgäu district to coordinate better cross-border bus connections," says Marion Kolb.

The city bus in Isny, which only runs on market day, should be offered every working day.

Reactivation of the railway line wanted

The railway is experiencing a surprising renaissance: The disused route between Isny and Leutkirch is to be reactivated, which is what half of the citizens who take part in writing and 56 percent of the citizens who take part online want.

It would be optimal, so it goes on, to let the trains run every 30 minutes.

Obviously, offers such as car sharing or cargo bikes are less of a focus than the railways.

This could be related to the low level of awareness and the "inconvenient use" (according to one participant) of these environmentally friendly mobility options.

"We have to advertise it more," said Mayor Rainer Magenreuter.

Cycling: Mixed comments

Klause and Kolb submitted an above-average number of comments from citizens about the bicycle, which is a very popular means of transport.

From the praise “A lot is done for cyclists in Isny!” To the note: “Cycling in Isny is very unsafe!” - everything happens.

The respondents criticize bike paths that are too narrow, a lack of parking spaces and catastrophic snow removal.

“The city should put its planning perspective more on bicycles and pedestrians”, so one statement.

Robert Blaser from the ADFC Isny announced to the district

messenger

that he would soon put appropriate proposals on the table.

Trains and buses would have to create more space for the transport of bicycles, and the charging infrastructure for electricity-driven vehicles would have to be improved.

Factory buses?

In the lively and detailed discussion of the committee it became clear: “The wishes from the survey encounter the reality in the city.

Isny is not Berlin, it is easier to implement there than here in the Allgäu, ”it said.

Environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility offers should be made as low-threshold and simple as possible, and local companies should also be involved: “In the past, they used to transport their employees to work and home by bus.

That could work again in the future. "
