The number of infections with the Corona virus exceeded 20 million in the Eastern Europe region, which is witnessing the worst outbreak since the beginning of the pandemic, in addition to a slowdown in vaccination operations.
According to a Reuters tally, new infections in the region increased significantly, exceeding an average of about 83,700 new cases per day, the highest level since November of last year.
Although Eastern Europe accounts for only four percent of the world's population, about 20 percent of all daily cases recorded globally are reported.
The data also showed that the five countries recording the most deaths in the world are in Eastern Europe, including Romania and Ukraine, and that the countries in the region have the lowest rates of vaccination.
And the Director of Emergencies at the World Health Organization, Mike Ryan, had confirmed earlier that the increase in indoor gatherings after lifting restrictions with the advent of winter is the main reason for the increase in Corona virus infections in many countries of Europe.
