Corona projector Prof. Salman Zarka said today (Sunday) in an interview with 103FM that the new delta strain is worrying and could lead to a new wave of illness, but nevertheless stressed that the vaccine is effective against it.

"There is optimism, the trend is down. We hope this trend will continue," he said.

He said of the new strain that came from the UK again: "We are following it, there are six cases here in the country. On Friday we had a zoom meeting with the British experts, the data is still in the beginning. We are talking about a sub-strain of the Delta in England. It is important that the vaccine is effective against it and protects us. "

"Despite the optimism, the emergence of a complex and new strain could lead us to another wave, so anyone who has not yet been vaccinated - the best protection is the vaccine. Even if there is a decline, this variant should keep ringing the bell to keep getting vaccinated," the professor clarified.

Prof. Zarqa detailed the steps taken to encourage the population that has not yet been vaccinated to go out and get vaccinated, many of them in East Jerusalem: "There is no vaccine limit, there are all over the country. "We will reach the neighborhood in Operation 'Vaccination to the Door' to encourage them to get vaccinated. We started last week in East Jerusalem, where we also found a large number of cases of people who were not vaccinated. There are groups that have been vaccinated less and we are increasing efforts for that at the moment."

Prof. Zarka defended the "green classroom" model, against the background of the considerable frustration among many parents: "The whole corona process, every return to school, is a risk management process. We did a test and found that 10% of children who return home after contact in class become positive. We tested whether when they stay in class whether they become positive or less - according to the test we saw that the first PCR after contact is the most important thing to determine whether a class stays open or closes. This is what happens today in all green and yellow communities Doing PCR ".

"We have seen what children are at home in terms of mental and social problems, and we are also trying to allow parents to return to work despite the corona," he said. "That it does not work, unfortunately there are enough schools and closed classrooms, and the children stay at home. We do not have a magic solution, the fact that there are cases of infection and class closure - it is known in advance and we have taken this into account."

"The amount of isolated children is lower than before, even if there are classrooms that are closing. We will refine this day after day and we are thinking of an idea for red and orange schools, because to my delight they are going to go down day after day," he concluded.

Chief of Public Health: "Some of the restrictions will stay with us for a long time"

Meanwhile, Ilana Ganz, head of the public health staff, said today in the constitutional committee that the next step in the relief will be the removal of the green mark in open places.

However, it warned that "some of the restrictions on the green label will remain with us for a long time to come."
