The horrific accident on Alec Baldwin's film set rocked Hollywood, but this is not the first time crew members have been found dead during their creative work • We have collected some of the most notable cases

The horrific accident that took place last weekend, during which actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot the director of photography of the film in which he stars and injured the director of the film - is no exception in Hollywood.

Strange as it may sound, the city of movies has known quite a few horrific accidents on the set, which have resulted in deaths, serious injuries and other unimaginable tragedies.

In light of the case that shocks the film world, we have returned to some of the notable cases.

Curse of the Lee family

The Hollywood tragedy on the best-known set is that of Brandon Lee, the son of the actor of the martial arts legend, Bruce Lee.

The 28-year-old Brandon followed in his father's footsteps and was drawn to the world of entertainment and action, but was found dead during the filming of "The Crow" in 1993.

On the 31st of March of that year, during filming in North Carolina, Lee collapsed and died to the amazement of all present on the set.

This was after he was shot by a gun that was designed to be nothing more than an accessory for photography purposes, but was instead loaded with live ammunition.

It all happened a few days before the end of filming, which was to make him a huge star in Hollywood.

A family curse.

After the shooting I was scheduled to fall forward, according to the script, but fell backwards and remained on the floor even after the "cut" shouts were made towards him.

The production team thought it was a game or a joke by the young actor, before one of the people on the set approached him, checked it out and realized it was the real thing.

Many tend to think that the scene of his death is the one that appears in the film, which was finally released without him - with other actors as well as computer effects completing his role.

But in reality in the shooting scene the "crow" is played by another actor, who is killed in the plot by a knife.

Bruce, Brandon's father, also died while filming a post-production of "Enter the Dragon" in Hong Kong in 1973.

Lee the father collapsed on the set but died a few weeks later, after suffering from an aneurysm in his brain.

The real twilight zone

The "Twilight Zone" series from the 1960s is considered a horror classic and a must-stop for fans of the genre, which also spawned several full-length films over the years after it went off the air.

But on a summer day in July 1982, the set of one of them became the real thing, when a helicopter crash killed three of the actors, two of them children, and six others were injured.

The incident led to a criminal and civil investigation against the filmmakers, resulting in tougher safety conditions on a variety of sets.

The director, producer of the series, production manager and explosives expert were convicted of manslaughter but acquitted, and the families of the actors who perished were compensated in the millions of dollars in civil lawsuits.

Midnight ride

The movie "Midnight Rider" released in 2014 is not considered well-known or particularly important in the annals of cinema.

This is a small independent film shot in a low profile and dealt with the life of the musician Greg Ullman.

The attention and media coverage that went on was devoted quite a bit to the death of Sarah Jones, an assistant photographer who was run over by a train while on the set of the film and found dead as a result, after the production team did not obtain the necessary permits to shoot scenes on the track.

A rally in memory of Sarah Jones,

Jones' parents filed a death claim negligently against the film's production, claiming the set was "unreasonably dangerous," and the parties finally reached a compromise after about nine months.

The film's director, Randall Miller, later pleaded guilty to unintentional manslaughter, sentenced to two years in prison - one of which was a run.

Dark matter

The film "The Dark Knight" from 2008 is considered one of the most successful and good in the Batman film series, and a complex, multi-layered work, and as its name implies - very dark.

But Christopher Nolan's film knew tragedy during filming (another, of course, about the death of actor Heath Ledger during filming - when he was not on the set), which is not widely talked about after the film's release.

The most successful but also the most deadly.

Conway Wycliffe, a special effects technician who worked on the set, was killed during a stunt shoot.

Wycliffe reportedly died in a car accident after his vehicle collided with a tree, at the end of a test drive.

Death at Deadpool

Another popular hero film from recent years is "Deadpool," which won a sequel in 2018.

During the filming of the movie, about a year earlier, the stuntman Joy Harris was killed on the set in Vancouver.

Harris was a professional motorcycle racer who was found dead on August 14 during filming, when she lost control of the motorcycle she was riding during a stunt, and crashed into a building window.

Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the Deadpool 2 team,

Harris died at the filming site, during her first job as a stuntman.

It was the second time a stuntman had been killed on a set in North America.

The movie "Deadpool 2" was dedicated to her memory.

Witches on the stake

This time it was not a death on the set, but a serious accident that could have easily claimed the lives of two women.

During the filming of a scene in the classic "The Wizard of Oz" from 1939, in which the witch disappears in a cloud of dust, actress Margaret Hamilton found herself on fire after failing to leave the filming area in time.

As she recounted in a book about her life, the broom and hat she wore caught fire, scorching the skin of her nose, her right cheek and the right side of her forehead.

Her lashes and eyebrows were also burned, as was her severely burned upper lip and hand.

A friend of the actress was called to the scene to pick her up at the hospital, while filming continued as usual.

"It always amazed me," she said, "that the studios did not send me home in a limousine."

In fact, not only did Hamilton not get to ride in the limousine, she also received a phone call from the studios, in which she was asked when she plans to return to the set.

Her recovery time lasted six weeks, and she returned to filming before fully recovering.

The only reason she did not sue for film production, she said, was because she wanted to continue working in Hollywood.

But it did not end there: Shortly after returning to the set, she was asked to film another scene that included the use of fire, but refused.

The one who did not refuse was her double, who was photographed for the scene in her place and this time she was burned.

"I felt my scalp fall out," Betty Danko later said, after spending 11 days in the hospital.
