The founder of the German Dance Film Institute in Bremen has been awarded the German Dance Prize 2021.
The jury praised Heide-Marie Härtel's work for having made an extraordinary contribution to the intangible cultural heritage of dance and the development of contemporary dance.
"Her life's work is linked to an internationally outstanding institution and the impulse to capture dance in the medium of film and to bring it back to life."
Essen / Bremen - The award, endowed with 20,000 euros, was presented on Saturday evening at a gala in the Aalto Theater in Essen.
Härtel (71) was a dancer herself and then switched to film documentation of dance theater.
The dance film institute she founded in 1988/89 now has an archive with more than 40,000 data carriers.
The dance prize is awarded by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
In addition to Härtel, the dance teacher Ursula Borrmann, the choreographer Claire Cunningham and the theater lawyer Adil Laraki were honored.
