At the start of its congress in Hanover, the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE) made clear demands on the future federal government for the coming energy turnaround in industry.
“It's no longer about the“ whether ”, but especially about the“ how ”of this energy turnaround and transformation,” said IG-BCE chairman Michael Vassiliadis at the opening of the congress on Sunday.
Hanover - You no longer have a buffer to postpone things like technical innovations into the future.
The union would like to accept changes, but there are still many unanswered questions on topics such as energy supply, energy prices or energy security.
"The new government must now address all of this to the population and, above all, make money available so that it happens," continued Vassiliadis.
For the head of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB), Reiner Hoffmann, now is the right time to make clear demands on the new federal government.
“We need massive investments so that this transformation can succeed”.
For Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD), after the decision to phase out coal and nuclear energy, the pace of expansion of renewable energies is one of the central issues of the coming federal government.
"A lot of time has been lost," said Weil.
There are no reserves and therefore the new federal government must expand renewable energies as quickly as possible.
"And you will have to work hard for that," continued Weil.
