Opinion | Carnage on the Road: We Can Save Lives | Israel today

2021-10-24T21:19:16.245Z

Each and every one of us has a duty to sanctify life and protect ourselves and those close to us. • When we stop behaving on the road as a battlefield, together we can defeat road accidents

Road Safety Week seeks to raise awareness of the fight against road homicide and the importance of the sanctity of life.

Unfortunately, this is a focused activity of only one week in the face of the commitment to strive to save lives throughout the year.

Every day, on average, a person is killed in a car accident.

Like a roulette ball that falls on a different family every day and casts a disaster on it, from which it will never be the same again.

More than 34,000 people were killed in road accidents across the country, more than in all of Israel's wars and hostilities.

About 300 families have been added to the bereaved family so far this year.

Road accidents do not differentiate between children and adults, between Jews and Arabs or between women and men - no one is immune to the plague.

As in Corona, road accidents also have a vaccine - liability.

The sanctity of life must stand before our eyes every day and every hour.

This is true both among the decision makers, and among the public holding the wheel.

We all have a responsibility and mutual guarantee to take care of ourselves and the other.

Just as we have all joined the fight in Corona, together, so too can the epidemic of road accidents be defeated and defeated.

It is not a fate from heaven but a hard and long struggle, but one whose wages are on his side and the reward is the most precious and sublime - human life.

This is not an impossible task.

In the years 2012-2002, the Israeli driver managed to reduce the number of deaths in road accidents by 47 percent.

We have proven that we can succeed when we unite in a mission as a society, and so it must be done now.

Each and every one of us has a duty to sanctify life and take care of ourselves and those close to us.

When we stop behaving on the road as a battlefield, together we will be able to defeat road accidents and make Israel one of the world's leading countries in road safety.

It's in the hands of all of us.
