2021-10-24T14:37:31.078Z

The carcasses were found in the area of the Kina and Kamerir streams, after information was received from transmitters that were on the eagles. • The suspicion is that this was a deliberate act of malice.

Large and severe eagle poisoning, apparently maliciously, in the area of Nahal Kina and Nahal Kamir was discovered today (Sunday), after nine dead eagles were found dead in the area.

This is a very serious and difficult event which significantly harms the eagle population in the south.

The poisoning was identified by information received from transmitters that were on the eagles this afternoon.

Inspectors from the Nature and Parks Authority went out into the area and found the eagles dead and next to them a dead goat suspected of being the source of the poisoning.

The goat and the eagles will be taken for examination at a veterinary institute in Beit Dagan.

The inspectors, accompanied by the poison dog, are scanning the area for additional findings.

Observations and scans by the inspectors of the Nature and Parks Authority were carried out in the colonies in Sde Boker and in the small crater.

Dedicated food is scattered in the feeding stations to prevent the eagles from eating poisoned meat if present in the area.

The authority opened an investigation to investigate the circumstances of the incident, at the end of which a complaint will be filed with the police.

The Society for the Protection of Nature's response to eagle poisoning: "About 200 eagles live in Israel today. Today, nine eagles have been poisoned, which is almost five percent of the entire eagle population in Israel. Eagle poisoning continues, and we are all shocked again. "The offenders, and even if caught, are unlikely to be prosecuted. The amendment to the Ministry of Environmental Protection's legislation was published a year ago, in October 2020, but unfortunately, since then nothing has changed. Except for the eagles that still remain in Israel, there is no more time to wait."
