The Colombian government announced today the arrest of Dairo Antonio Osuga, better known as Otonial, who is wanted as the country's largest drug trafficker.
Agence France-Presse reported that the Colombian security forces managed to arrest Atonial, who is on the list of most wanted drug smugglers in the country and in the United States, which offered a reward of five million dollars to anyone who contributes to his arrest during an operation in the Uraba region in the north of the country.
The police carried out the operation in cooperation via satellite with law enforcement agencies in the United States and Britain, in which about 500 members of the security forces participated in the support of 22 helicopters, during which a policeman was killed.
Colombian President Ivan Duque welcomed the arrest of Otonial, considering it the most powerful blow dealt to the drug trade in this century in our country, adding that his arrest is only comparable to the fall of Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Medellín cartel, who controlled up to eighty percent of the cocaine trade in the world and was killed by the Colombian police in 1993.
Colombia is the largest producer of cocaine in the world, while the United States is the largest consumer of it, despite the passage of four decades of combating drug trafficking.
