The municipality of Pöcking will not purchase a turntable ladder for its fire brigade.

The municipal council rejected the volunteers' request on Thursday evening.

The application was based on a requirement from the current fire service requirements plan.

After research by the town hall administration, it turned out to be wrong.

Pöcking - When the commissioned demand plan was presented to the local councils in May, everyone caught their breath. The company “forplan”, a Bonn-based research and planning company for rescue, fire and disaster control, commissioned with the plan production, announced to the community that they would not be able to avoid the purchase of a turntable ladder, which could cost up to one million euros. When taking stock, the company had come across several buildings with more than three storeys, in which the extension ladders available on site could no longer be used in the event of a fire. In these cases a turntable ladder would be needed. Because the neighboring brigades in Starnberg and Tutzing, which have such devices, could not meet the target of eight and a half minutes after the alarm was raised, the Pöckinger would now have to dig deep into their pockets. Otherwise, the municipality would have to ask the owners of the buildings to create a second escape route, if not already available, or prohibit the construction of houses of this height.

The town hall administration did not want to accept the assessment of the plan manufacturer unchecked. Managing director Sven Neumann asked the Bavarian Municipal Association for a statement. Neumann now presented the result, which came about after a clarifying discussion with the Ministry of the Interior, to the local councils. Basically, it is the client's duty to comply with the requirements of building law, i.e. to also build a second escape route. Where this does not happen, it is the job of the building supervisory authority at the district office to request the subsequent installation of a second escape and rescue route. Neumann: "The community has no reason to compensate for the building owners' omissions by buying a turntable ladder." It would only have that if it knew of conditions that are contrary to building law and kept this knowledge to itself for years,So do not report them to the district office. The administration is not aware of such a case.

Round-the-clock readiness not guaranteed

Neumann also referred to the follow-up costs of a turntable ladder.

Fire fighters who have been specially trained to operate this device must be on call around the clock.

Maintenance is expensive.

In addition, the vehicle must be suitable for storage, "and we currently do not have the option," said Neumann.

Last but not least, the purchase of a turntable ladder is designed to last forever: "If the device fails to work and cannot be restarted, a replacement must be procured."

The municipal council agreed with Neumann's remarks without discussion.

The plenary only officially took note of the motion.
