Last night, the plastic artist Bassam Sabbagh, head of the branch of the Union of Fine Artists in Hama, died after a severe crisis at the age of eighty-first.

The late is considered one of the most prominent figures of contemporary plastic art in Syria. He was born in the city of Hama in 1940. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Drilling, in 1964. He is a founding member of the Syndicate of Fine Arts, the Union of Fine Artists. He has practiced oil painting since his graduation, and his paintings are spread in Arab and Western countries.

Ragheb Hahadriya, deputy head of the branch of the Union of Plastic Artists in Hama and a friend of the late, said in a statement to SANA reporter: “The biography of the plastic artist Sabbagh was full of artistic giving and achievements, as he was a semi-permanent participant in the exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture, spring, autumn and annual since 1958, and he also participated in exhibitions Artists Union and the October Liberation War.

According to Hahadriya, the late had active contributions in teaching plastic art, as he taught art education in Idlib and Hama high schools, then as a specialist mentor in Homs and Hama, and served as head of the trade union committee in his governorate and the Union branch since its establishment in 1979 until his departure.
