Abed Kazaz, one of the most powerful criminals in Jaffa, and who was the partner of the head of the criminal organization Izzat Hamed - was killed yesterday (Saturday) in broad daylight in front of passers-by in the city port. A few years ago, the partnership and good relations that existed between 40-year-old Kazaz and 54-year-old Hamed ran aground, and police even suspected that Kazaz was involved in the assassination of the latter in June. Now, one of the main lines of investigation is examining whether the murder today in the Jaffa port came as revenge for Hamed's murder.

Another direction that the police are examining is a conflict with rival criminal organizations that were happy about Hamed's departure and did not like the "volume" and status that he had amassed in the past year and a half in Jaffa, since he was released from prison after running over a police officer in 2013. The incident began when he offset a vehicle on a motorcycle without a valid license, approached a police checkpoint on Route 443, accelerated, hit a car queuing for inspection and immediately hit a police officer - who was hurled at the road. He then continued to drive another 10 miles, and fled on foot until a police officer stopped him.

His sentence in this incident was five and a half years in prison, and 100,000 shekels in compensation for a police officer who suffered several fractures and needed hospitalization and several surgeries.

Lod District Judge wrote about offsetting in her decision: "The defendant's conviction in this case, the defendant's past and the spawn box hanging over his head show that he suffered a bad injury that he adapted to a criminal lifestyle."

He has since been arrested several more times on suspicion of murder and released.

  • Fear of resumption of bloody conflict: Jaffa's "King of Protection" eliminated in an ambush in Tel Aviv

Kazaz and Hamed were known as brutal criminals, whose names often made headlines.

In 2006, the two cracked down on the fishing conflict in Jaffa, which ended in the murder of Khader Daka at noon in the city.

The two, along with some of Hamed's "soldiers" and accomplices, were violently involved in a variety of extortion and threats that led to the abduction, attempted murder and one-minute murder in central Jaffa in broad daylight.

The 2006 murder began when Kazaz and his men ordered a minute and a relative read the Koran, then put them in the trunk of a vehicle with the intent to abduct them.

During the trip, the two managed to escape from the trunk even though they were forced.

Kazaz spotted them, chased after them while firing at them and murdered Daka in front of passers-by on Yehuda Hayamit Street in Jaffa.

A minute's relative managed to escape and escaped.

The investigation also revealed that Kazaz and his friends were armed with several Lau missiles and fired them at two houses in the city.

A few years earlier, in 2002, Qazaz was arrested with Iyad Hanun, on suspicion of murdering the 23-year-old brothers' Abd Issa and 22-year-old Muhammad Issa.

Kazaz has been involved over the years in a series of weapons and violence offenses.

Kazaz was found dead yesterday, when two unknown individuals opened fire on him in the southern parking lot of the port in Jaffa, when the area was full of visitors as well as those who came to be examined in Corona in a compound located in the area.

Shortly afterwards, the unknown blocked him while he was in his vehicle, and he in response tried to escape from the vehicle on foot.

The two then shot at him and hit him.

After the shooting, Kazaz jumped from the boardwalk wall into the sea.

An MDA team that was called to the scene and passers-by pulled him out of the water, and he was evacuated in critical condition to the Wolfson Hospital in Holon, where they were finally pronounced dead.

Hamed's violent past is also recorded: in July 2004, he was released from prison after serving 12 years in prison for attempted murder.

In early 2011, he was arrested again in an affair dubbed by the police "the pomegranate tree" on suspicion of extorting large-scale sponsorship fees, attempted murder and burying explosive devices, and was accused of operating a criminal organization in Jaffa and other cities in the center.

Last July, Hamed was killed by unknown individuals who ambushed him and shot him at close range while riding a motorcycle on Greenbaum Street in Tel Aviv.

Immediately after the shooting, the assassins fled the scene.
